Ahead of Australian Made Week, Volvo Group Australia (Volvo) today marks a pivotal moment for Australian manufacturing, announcing it will build the first-ever Australian-made heavy duty electric trucks at the company’s Wacol facility in Brisbane next year.
Volvo Trucks has now delivered more than 5,000 battery-electric trucks to customers in 50 countries around the world including more than 80 in Australia.
This years’ Excellence in Smart transport Award has been awarded to Volvo Group Australia. Announced at the Smart Energy Council’s inaugural Smart Energy Excellence Awards Gala Dinner in Sydney. Volvo Group Australia Acquires Truck Centre Western Australia In Key Investment Move
Effective July, 1, 2025, Truck Centre Western Australia will become a business entity under the Volvo Group Australia banner. The acquisition includes all 8 existing branches and all service centres throughout Western Australia.
Queensland based transport companies, JR Stephens and Co, and Rise of The Phoenix have taken delivery of their first electric trucks as Volvo Group Australia (VGA) makes inroads towards establishing a fossil free supply chain.
The 120-ton rated prime mover, fittingly showcases the advantages of local manufacturing and engineering with features such as a Crawler Gear equipped new generation I-Shift transmission, Volvo Dynamic Steering with Pilot Assist, and of course the most powerful truck engine currently available in Australia, the D17 780.

Volvo Group Australia announces HVO 100 factory first fill at Wacol QLD facility
As VGA works toward meeting it’s 2030 emissions reductions target, the group has announced that, from December 2024, all Volvo and Mack trucks built at Volvo Group Australia’s Wacol QLD factory will be filled with Hydro Treated Vegetable Oil (HVO) instead of diesel fuel.
