Stop Look Wave

Initiative to keep kids safe in traffic

Stop Look Wave is an easy and engaging method to help children everywhere learn how to stay safe on the roads. Find out more and access the training resources.

Vulnerable Road Users at Risk

In accidents involving heavy trucks, more than one quarter of the people who lose their lives are vulnerable road users, such as pedestrians and cyclists. Children are especially vulnerable on the roads.

The Importance of Being Seen

With the Stop Look Wave initiative, we want to make a real difference in traffic safety. Our goal is to help children understand how to behave safely in traffic, particularly when they are near a truck. Even if you have seen the truck, it does not mean the truck driver has seen you.

Spreading Knowledge

It is not the responsibility of children to prevent accidents. That responsibility lies with drivers, truck manufacturers, and infrastructure providers. Stop Look Wave is about sharing knowledge. Knowledge that can lead to safer interactions between different groups of road users.

This is how to do it

In the Stop Look Wave training the children can learn about different traffic situations and what to think about when crossing a road. The training material can be downloaded for free further down.

Three important words make out the core of the training:

STOP

If you are going to cross the street, stop at the crossing and wait until there are no vehicles approaching.

LOOK

Look both ways. If a vehicle stops, seek eye contact with the driver.

WAVE

Wave to the driver and wait for the driver to wave back before you cross the road.

Since Stop Look Wave was launched in 2015, it’s reached children in more than 30 countries worldwide. It increases awareness, encourages safe behaviour and can help save lives.

Stop, look, wave… and dance!

As part of Stop Look Wave we’ve made this song and music video to help spread the message. Can you get a classroom full of kids up on their feet and dancing to the song?
