Volvo Trucks Australia has made a cheeky bid for the Australian of the Year title.

Volvo Trucks thought it was time the truck received the most prestigious of nominations. Now why we might have missed out on Friday night we believe it would have made a great contendor.

“It ticks every box,” Volvo Group Australia President & CEO, Martin Merrick said, with his tongue firmly planted in cheek.

“It’s an inspirational role model for the community, it makes significant contributions to Australia, and it’s an Australian citizen. Why shouldn’t it be Australian of the Year?”

They inspire us through their achievements and challenge us to make our own contribution to creating a better Australia.  View the list of nominees.

Built by Australians, for Australians

With over 46,475 Volvo Trucks rolling off the production line at Volvo’s Wacol plant (as of December 2018) it’s clear that Volvo Trucks is a manufacturer that has not only endured, but thrived in Australia.

Take a leap forward to 2019, and that same Wacol facility not only remains in operation, but has become Australia’s largest vehicle manufacturing powerhouse

But Volvo’s commitment goes beyond the Wacol plant. Together with private partners, Volvo has invested and continues to invest heavily in the largest dealer and customer service network in Australia and New Zealand – with a total of $160m in the four years to 2018. In 2018, this investment created a new national headquarters as well as new dealerships in both Sydney and Brisbane.

An Australian manufacturing success story

It’s in part because of this local production that Volvo Trucks have become the truck of choice for both Australian transport companies and drivers. This, coupled with class leading customer satisfaction, outstanding driver ergonomics and leading safety features makes the Volvo Truck purchase decision an easy one.

What’s more, Volvo Trucks has officially joined the Australian Made Campaign, being awarded certification to carry the iconic ‘Australian Made’ logo. Joining the campaign means that Volvo Trucks are currently the only cab-over truck manufacturer to have been awarded the prestigious Australian Made certification.
